Simon Le Gone! Duran Duran cancel home show after singer's illness.

DURAN Duran star John Taylor has spoken of his 'disappointment' that a homecoming gig in Birmingham last night was cancelled. The 1980s legends were forced to postpone the LG Arena concert late on Friday when medics advised frontman Simon Le Bon to rest his voice after being hit by laryngitis.

Bassist and group founder Taylor later posted on social network Twitter: "So gutted, my heart has sunk. It's brutal.

''I'm sorry for the effort you guys put in. But we'll be back better and stronger!" Disappointed fan Sarah Morris, from Birmingham, said: "It's such a shame, but I'd rather Simon recovers and returns a little later on, on top form. "There's going to be some very upset fans out there.

''I'm amongst the new wave of Duran Duran fans, having only just realised this time around that I love some of their older songs, but as a kid I was too concerned with Kylie and Jason to pay attention.

"I went to the filming of their ITV show, For One Night Only, in March and absolutely loved it, so I was looking forward to seeing them in full gig mode." Formed in Birmingham in 1978, the band were one of the most successful groups of the 1980s and were huge in the US after their videos were repeatedly featured on the new MTV.

Duran Duran have had 14 singles in the Top 10 of the UK and 21 in the Billboard Hot 100 and have also sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

A statement from the NEC Group said: "Simon Le Bon has been advised that he needs to continue to rest his voice for the next few days, as his laryngitis improves.

"This means that the band have been forced to postpone their next three shows, including the originally scheduled Birmingham LG Arena.

"The band members are hugely disappointed to have had to postpone these next three shows, which would have marked the start of their All You Need Is Now World Tour, but hope that Simon will be fully recovered within the next few days."

Fans are advised to hold on to their tickets as details of the rescheduled shows will be released shortly, the venue said. Duran Duran cancel home show after singer's illness POSTPONED: Duran Duran's John Taylor, (left) said he was disappointed after singer Simon LeBon contracted laryngitis.
