Simmons, ZCMI fete Beautyrest Galleries.

SALT LACK CITY, Utah -- Simmons Co. and department store chain, ZCMI, held a grand opening ceremony celebrating the introduction of Simmons Beautyrest Galleries in eight of the chain's 15 stores. ZCMI is the first department store chain nationwide to open Beautyrest Galleries and now offers the largest assortment of Simmons merchandise in Utah.

The gallery program was launched last spring and is in place in all ZCMI stores that carry furniture and bedding. The galleries range in size from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet, offer as many as 15 Beautyrest and Beautysleep models and feature a choice of firmnesses --pillowtop, luxury firm and extra firm. The value of the Simmons brand as well as the extensive sales training offered by Simmons were among the reasons for choosing the Simmons gallery program.

"The Simmons brand is valuable to consumers. Simmons was also able to help tailor our assortment to meet certain price points," explained Bill Ryberg, ZCMI's furniture and sleep shop buyer.

"Another key factor in going exclusively with Simmons was the comprehensive training program that Bill Visser, Simmons' key account manager and Kevin Damewood, Simmons' vice president of sales, Seattle, put together," Ryberg continued. "They evaluated our sales people, trained them about bedding, and also trained them on selling in general. And because our bedding salespeople also sell furniture, we've seen their training cross over into our furniture sales."

The transition to the Simmons gallery program was difficult for the sales staff at first, according to Ryberg, but in a short time it has paid off.
