Silicone insulator coatings.

The Xiameter brand has added a new product to its portfolio of silicone products used to improve performance and reliability in the electrical utility industry. Xiameter ECE-3650 Sylgard HVIC is a coating designed for high-voltage insulators, instrument transformers and other high-voltage devices where surface contamination can cause insulation issues.

The product offers proven arcing and flashover protection, as well as resistance to environmental stresses, pollution and extreme temperatures. It can be used in a range of applications including on glass, porcelain and composite insulators, as well as other devices, such as barrier boards used in switch gear and in large motors.

Xiameter ECE-3650 Sylgard HVIC offers long-term hydrophobicity, imparts arc resistance, reduces electrical leakage and minimizes surface damage from electrical activity during extreme weather events, such as salt storms. In addition, it exhibits a unique ability to recover water repellency after contaminants are deposited on its surface. The product reduces maintenance requirements on insulators and associated equipment by reducing or, in many cases, eliminating the need for repetitive water washing or repetitive greasing.
