Sidi Bouzid: Protest movement against installation of landfill.

14/07/2019 14:26, TUNIS/Tunisia

(TAP) - The local people of Lasseouda region (governorate of Sidi Bouzid) observed, on Sunday, a protest movement in the city centre against the decision to install a landfill in the region, considering that it will amplify the problem of the emission of foul odours from the milk production unit and poultry houses installed in this region.

Civil society activist Mahjoub Nsibi told TAP correspondent that the city of Lassoueda does not need a landfill because of the asphyxia suffered by the inhabitants due to the foul odours emanating, mainly from the hen houses and the dairy production unit, causing some of them to be hospitalised and suffering from several diseases.

He indicated that local and regional authorities have been called upon to find a solution that would satisfy all parties, but the situation remains the same.

The protesters advocated changing the site hen houses and taking additional measures regarding the dairy production unit to eliminate the emission of unpleasant odours and cancel the decision to install a landfill in the area.
