Sico boosts executive management team.

MANAMA: Bahrain-based Sico, a regional asset manager, broker and investment bank, has announced two key appointments to its executive management.

Fadhel Makhlooq has been made the chief capital markets officer and Mariam Isa is the new head of brokerage.

In the newly created role, Mr Makhlooq will be responsible for developing and managing the capital market business which encompasses brokerage, sell side research and treasury.

Ms Isa, who has been promoted to the new position, will be responsible for building on the success of the brokerage business, said a statement.

Sico chief executive Najla Al Shirawi said they were in line with the strategy of promoting from within "talented, experienced and dedicated staff and offering them attractive career progression opportunities".

"Fadhel has been with Sico for over 14 years and enjoys well-proven professional skills, high-level qualifications, and extensive experience and market insight needed to develop, build and manage the growing capital markets business," she added.

Mr Makhlooq joined Sico in 2004 as head of brokerage and has more than 35 years of experience having previously worked for a number of leading financial institutions in Bahrain.

He has an MBA from Glamorgan University, UK.

Talking about Ms Isa, the chief executive said the 13-year veteran of Sico's brokerage department has become the first female head of brokerage in Bahrain. Ms Isa joined Sico in 2005 and has an MBA in Islamic finance from University College of Bahrain.
