Sick yobs attack horses.

A HORSEOWNER is afraid to leave her beloved animals alone after cruel yobs attacked them in their field.

Margaret Leurie was horrified when she arrived at her stables in Rowlands Gill, Gateshead, on Monday to find vandals had ransacked the buildings and sprayed an unknown substance in the faces of the grazing horses.

She found three of the precious pets had been attacked with a sticky spray that had narrowly missed their eyes, and a heap of plants had been piled against the stable wall and soaked in flammable hoof oil, as if someone had been trying to start a fire.

A hole had also been cut in the fence where the horses were grazing, allowing them to escape into the field next door.

"The front of the stables were totally trashed," she said. "But the frightening thing is it honestly looked like they had been trying to set a fire.

"The three horses outside were sprayed near their eyes. We are lucky that they weren't blinded."

"I'm just petrified of leaving them alone now."

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said the incidents were being investigated.
