Sibuconians score double in 1st LBC-Liga Pinoy; 6th JAFC cagefest opens today.
An opening ceremony to launch this tournament within a tournament will start at 9 p.m. with the traditional parade of teams. Jerry T. Lagrimas will emcee the event. Thirteen teams divided into Pool A and Pool B entered the competition organized by the JAFC Organizing Committee chaired by Ibrahim Camelo Mendez.
Defending champion Head Office plays in the first game against a team to be drawn by lot. The teams for the second game also are to be drawn by lot.
Teams in Pool A are Al Khumrah (NPD), ALJ Rehab/ACCL, Forklift (Kilo 5), Head Office 1 and 2, Mega Al Jowhara, Mega Body & Paint (Al Safa) and Mega Center (Jeddah). Bracketed in Pool B are IT Division, JACS, Lexus, NGFC (HO3), Madina Road and Prince Sultan/ Ring Road.
In Liga Pinoy Sibuconians completed a weekend double after beating Al Majal 4GS 64-58 Thursday and Bacolod Kalawi 71-70 Friday.
In both games Sibuconians Tutuan was named Best Player of the game.
Al Majal toted a 1-1 record after the first two weeks of play having won its first game against BRF Sadia as Alvin Alturas scored 25 points in the opening day of the tournament on June 28.
Also winning on opening day was Twitter Marogong over Smaland Ikea 65-55 with Twitter's Bajunaid as the Best player of the game.
Commissioner James Roxas said the Open Rated Division will stay despite the aborted game between Samco and Al Ghadeer Al Arabia. Samco has begged off and its spot will be replaced by Nadim Sultani's Lebanese Selection. Samsung Team of Francis Magat and Gary Viray, Amang Catador's Al Ghadeeer and the Egyptian Selection of Waleed Kattab complete the roster of Open Rated teams.
Sadia rebounded from its opening day defeat with a 57-48 triumph over Smaland Ikea. Flora of Sadia grabbed Best Player honors.
Before its game against Sibuconians Bacolod Kalawi defeated Twitter Marogong 74-70 for a 1-1 card. Bacolod's Anwar Palo with 24 points was adjudged Best Player.
Elsewhere, Aleena handed Ikea its third straight defeat with an 85-75 victory in their match, while King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital (KFAFH) clipped the wings of Jeddah Eagles 78-66 in the nightcap last Friday.
Jay Liam led KFAFH with 30 points and went on to claim Best Player honors.
LBC Express Inc. is the major sponsor of the tournament. Bryan Javier, LBC-KSA marketing specialist, helped facilitate the sponsorship.
