Shotgun barrel crown.
Q I am doing a fair amount of work on some shotgun barrels for myself and my friends. Unfortunately I do not have a lathe or access to one. Can you recommend a hand tool to allow me to quickly and accurately face off and crown a shotgun barrel? I have done it with just a machinist square and a file but that takes far too long. I need help!
A I would strongly encourage you to check with the folks at Manson Precision Reamers, 8200 Embury Rd., Dept. FAN, Grand Blanc, MI 48439, telephone 810-9530732, www.mansonreamers.com. Manson produces the absolute best hand tools for precision crowning of riffle, pistol, and shotgun barrels. These tools are designed so they incorporate a series of small files that remove metal smoothly and evenly. You cannot find a better designed and made tool for this purpose than that made by Dave Manson.
