Shot cats feline fine.

Byline: By ELAINE KEOGH

WHILE he might look to be in purrfect health, brave Leo came within a whisker of death.

The X-ray below shows how a shotgun pellet had lodged next to his spinal cord - a few millimetres more and he'd be dead.

Leo's lucky escape was revealed after a kindly passerby found him and another wounded cat and brought them to vet Frances Harvey in Slane, Co Meath.

Frances was shocked by their injuries and added: "It was wanton target practice by somebody who simply didn't care what harm they did.

"If I hadn't operated on the pair I don't think they would have survived the night."

Elizabeth Doran from Drogheda Animal Rescue Centre where the cats are being looked after added: "This was a callous act and both are lucky to be alive."
