Short story competition held at Campus Radio, FJWU.

RAWALPINDI -- Campus Radio Voice of Women (VoW) of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) has arranged Urdu Short Story Competition to celebrate International Women's Day.

The theme of the short story competition was "Aurat Tarey Rang Hazar". Realization of women issues and importance of women education in the development of societies was highlighted in these stories.

Mehmooda Ghazia and Dr. Huma Jhangir, well known fiction stories writers, adjudged the competition. Students from different department of the university participated in it.

The purpose of arranging this competition was provision of platform to students where they can show off their writing powers and express their emotions and thoughts in words.

In Urdu short story, first prize was awarded to Maimoona Najam of Public Administration Department, while second was given to Umme- Kalsoom of Communication and Media Studies Department while the third position was shared by Sabeen Sohail and Ms. Ayesha Rahim of English and Software Engineering Department respectively.

Addressing the occasion, Ms. Mehmooda Ghazia said that, women should be given the right of taking their own decision.

They constitute 52% of the total population of Pakistan. So, they do not deserve a neglected attitude and should not lag behind.

She underlined the need for sending all girls to schools.

Until women are not economically self-sufficient, the society cannot progress, she added. She also shared her poem with the audience on same theme.

Ms. Shama Khalid, Senior Producer Radio VoW expressed her gratitude and applauded the selection of topic.

She said that it is our responsibility to work together and eliminate discrimination against women.

Mean while Pink Ribbon Campaign supported by Higher Education Commission was launched at the university premises.

In this regard different posters and banners were placed on notice boards and flyers were distributed among students and Faculty members.

The basic objective of this campaign was to create awareness among females about the breast cancer and encourage women to discuss this serious issue with courage.

It is the moral obligation of everyone to educate the females about breast cancer which is one of the major causes of death among women of Pakistan and it is the need of the hour that we should raise awareness about the disease.
