Shopping aid gets Assembly backing.

A DEVICE that enables shoppers to carry numerous carrier bags and remain hands-free is proving to be a best seller for its St Asaph inventor.

Matt Davies only launched the Yoke Shopper last September and it is already sold in 18 countries around the world. The hands-free shopping aid consists of an adjustable retractable strap capable of carrying numerous bags of different sizes and weights.

To date 4,500 Yokes have been sold and they are proving so popular that Matt has given up his job as digital director at a major publishing company to concentrate on running and developing the business.

The Yoke Shopper is one of several innovative products that will be promoted by the Welsh Assembly Government at this year's International Exhibition of Inventors in Geneva next week. It is anticipated to attract 800 exhibitors.

Matt has had help, advice and funding from the Wales Innovators Network, a WAG service, part funded by the EU.

"They were instrumental in helping me get the idea off the ground," said Matt.

As well as exhibiting 14 Welsh inventions at Geneva, the Assembly Government is also taking along a state of the art interactive catalogue of projects it has supported.
