Shop - rock 'n' roll with Elvis.

ANYONE demanding to see the manager of the Asda superstore in Walsgrave, Coventry, on Saturday would have met "Elvis" - complete with wig and medallion.

Mark Smalley, aged 34, donned a hired Elvis costume and crooned Love Me Tender, Wooden Heart and Suspicious Minds on a karaoke machine to shoppers in the foyer of the Brade Road supermarket.

The stunt was part of the supermarket's national celebration of what would have been the dead rocker's 65th birthday.

Asda bosses decided to mark the anniversary after being taken over by American company Wal Mart in October.

Shoppers were invited to take up the microphone and have a go, with prizes for the best adult and children and booby prizes for disasters.

Mr Smalley, a lifelong Elvis fan, said: "When I heard about the event I thought is was an absolutely fantastic idea.

"We are shaking away the January blues with a good bit of Elvis rock 'n' roll."
