Shooting's man of the year.

The year 1984 was a good one for Southern California. Along with your normal fine weather, the city of Los Angeles was host to the XXIII Games of the Modern Olympiad, and proved to the world that it was indeed possible for a host city to hold "The Games" and not go into debt. In fact, because it was paid for, in many instances, by private enterprise, when all was said and done there was a surplus over $100 million dollars.

It was also a good year for the Chairman of the Board of Petersen Publishing Co., Robert E. Petersen, who just happens to be the owner of Guns & Amno Magazine. Mr. Petersen was the Olympic shooting Commissioner, and most knowledgeable people feel that without "Pete's" assistance, guidance, and literally thousands of hours of work arranging for the shooting venue to first be built, and then accepted by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, the International Shooting Union, and other interested groups, it is quite possible shooting wouldn't have been included in the Games.

In recognition of his diligent work, Mr. Petersen has recently been awarded the California Rifle and Pistol Association's prestigious Public Service Award for 1984. This award was bestowed upon mr. Petersen at the Association's annual Awards Banquet. At that same dinner, Mr. Petersen was also recognized by both the National Rifle Association and the International Shooting Union for his tireless work on behalf of the Olympics.

At the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, Pete was also honored by Anschutz/Precision Sales International (the American distributor of Anschutz rifles), when Dieter Anschutz and Alan Johnson presented Mr. Petersen with a running boar rifle built especially for him. A medallion inlaid into the stock commemorates Pete's participation in the XXIII Games.

So not only was 1984 a good year for Southern California, it was a good year for Bob Petersen ... but then he worked very hard to guarantee it would be.
