* Shirley Alexander, who received an award of excellence from her alma mater, Yale University. She graduated from Yale with an M.A., majoring in education and English literature, in 1949. In 1954, she and her husband, Laurence, started Alexander Communications Group, which today publishes 13 newsletters and numerous reports and books.

She helped found NEPA in 1977, served on the board of directors for 21 years, was NEPA's third president in 197980, served on the Foundation's board for 15 years, was its president for nine years, was named along with her husband Publisher of the Year in 1993, and was inducted into the Foundation's Hall of Fame in 2000.
