Shiraz: Future's ORANGE.

Byline: Shiraz Lalani

WHEN the Motorola V3 Razr was first unveiled in the summer, it seemed an absolute shoo-in for phone of the year.

Wafer thin with with a shiny, flush keypad that is just as pleasing to use as it is to look at, this machine stands out like Jodie Kidd in a Bella Emberg lookalike contest.

But stiff competition came from an unexpected quarter. The Orange SPV- C500, left, is tiny for a smartphone yet still boasts a full range of features including Windows Mobile and Outlook email.

It's not as flash as the V3, and you won't get any admiring glances when you whip it out in the pub, but as a day-to-day tool it could just be the smarter choice. Maybe.
