Shipments still okay, says AHAM.

CHICAGO--To put the industry's latest monthly totals in perspective, in only three Novembers in the past nine years had shipments exceeding 4 million units.

Thus the leveling-off of year-to-comparisons in the latest two months is not regarded with concern. In fact, the industry still is on pace for its first year at 51 million units--the record is 50.65 million in 1987.

"Consumer purchasing behavior will remain steady throughout the next year, which will keep shipment numbers high," reiterates Bob Holding, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers' president. "We're anticipating another blockbuster year."
