Shimmy at the show.

The Golden Lotus Bump & Grind Burlesque Revue shimmies into Newcastle on Thursday.

The show, which is hoped to become a regular event, will take place in the kitsch surroundings of the downstairs Club venue at the Apartment luxe-bar on Collingwood Street.

If you're new to burlesque, it's all about empowering and often humorous strip-tease but with the emphasis on the tease and glamour, there's no actual nudity.

Burlesque events are a throwback to vaudevillian-style variety shows, and as well as national burlesque stars Cherri Shakewell, Foxy Rouge, Lexy Van Gosh and Missy Malone, the show will also feature cabaret vampire queen Rosie Lugosi, Ireland's top male burlesque star Elektralush, compere Warren Speed and an eclectic DJ spinning dance beats late into the night.

You can come along in whatever attire you please, though audiences are encouraged to dress to impress; think Moulin Rouge, 1920s flapper dancers and Chicago gangster chic.

Tickets are pounds 10 on (0191) 230 4114.
