Shieldinch stalker; Soap chiefs reveal serial attacker plot.
RIVER City is to be targeted by a serial sex attacker who will leave women too scared to walk the streets of Shieldinch alone.
The controversial storyline will see the soap's female characters living in fear after a number of them fall victim to the mystery stalker.
But they will eventually band together to reclaim the streets for themselves.
Gaynor Holmes, River City's executive producer, said: "It's a huge storyline.
"Summer in Shieldinch is going to be incredibly exciting." The plot is part of a sensational few months for the BBC Scotland soap that will also see a host of new characters and the return of familiar faces.
Jimmy Yuill is back as
Reverend John Wallace, who strongly disapproves of his gay son Scott's (Tony Kearney) sexuality.
Also arriving in Shieldinch are hairdressers Gordon, Jack, Hayley and Robbie - who will open up new salon Just Gordon.
Sandy Welch plays owner Gordon Swan, while manager Jack Farquhar, played by John Comerford, wastes no time in chatting up the locals, including Gina (Libby McArthur).
Playing a hairdresser is familiar territory for John, who owns a salon in Glasgow's west end.
He said: "It's like art imitating life for me - at least I know my way around a pair of scissors." Sandy, who has starred in The Karen Dunbar Show and Rebus, said: "Gordon is harbouring a big secret." TV newcomers Pamela Byrne and Gary Lamont complete the line-up as Hayley and Robbie.
. River City is on BBC1, Tuesday, at 8pm..
