Beaverton, which is making its 20th consecutive appearance in the playoffs, plays host to Sheldon today at 7:30 p.m. in the second round of the Class 4A boys basketball sub-tournament.

Beaverton is looking to return to the state tournament after missing out last year. The Beavers went to state for seven straight seasons from 1994-2000 but were defeated by McNary in last year's sub-tournament.

Nick Robertson is in his 19th year as coach of the Beavers, who are the No. 3 seed out of the Metro League with a 10-6 mark. Beaverton is 16-8 overall, including a 60-44 win over Midwestern League champion Thurston at the Les Schwab Invitational.

Six-foot-four senior post Matt Henderson was a first team, all-league selection after averaging 17.4 points per game. He is joined on the front line by 6-7 Danny Kranda.

Wings Andrew Crossley and John Setzer were both third team, all-league picks after averaging 12.2 and 10.2 points, respectively.

The Beavers started the season 1-3 in league play but won their final five games to finish third.

Sheldon is also on a roll, having won six of its past seven games, including a 64-50 win over McMinnville in the first round of the sub-tournament Tuesday. Keith Best had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way.

Guards Chad Mart and Andy Perry combined for 25 points. Jered Souder, Chad Kuhnhenn and Nick Anderson combined for 12 points off the bench.

Sheldon, which has lost in the second round of the sub-tournament in each of the past two seasons, is looking to return to the state tournament for the first time since 1998.

The winner of tonight's game travels to face Crescent Valley, the No. 2 seed out of the Valley League, on Saturday.
