Sheldon scores early, often to beat Axemen.

Byline: The Register-Guard

Sheldon stayed perfect in league play, rolling to a 19-point halftime lead and pulling away from there for a 73-41 victory over Sheldon in a Southwest Conference girls basketball game on Tuesday at South.

Sheldon (13-3, 5-0) remained 1 1/2 games ahead of North Medford and South Medford in the league standings. The Irish will play at the Black Tornado on Friday.

Jenna Glenzel led South Eugene (7-9, 1-3) with nine points and Lindsey Galloway added seven.

Sky-Em League

Junction City 48, Sutherlin 37: Maddy Mehlbrech scored 17 points, Mariah Ohman had 14 points and Allison Bedacht added eight rebounds to lead the Tigers (13-4, 3-1) to the victory over the Bulldogs. Kiersten Haines scored nine points to lead Sutherlin (7-11, 2-2).

Elmira 55, Sisters 23: Sydney Greene had 15 points for the Falcons (6-8, 2-2) and Jadenn Blunt had 13 points. Kylee Anderson added 12 points for Elmira. Meaghan Greaney and Sydney Head had six points apiece for Sisters (4-13, 1-3).

Cottage Grove 69, Sweet Home 28: Keara Murphy scored 14 points and Reilly Kelty added 13 points to lead the Lions (8-7, 4-0) to the victory over the Huskies. April Underwood led Sweet Home (1-16, 0-4) with seven points.

Far West League

North Bend 40, Siuslaw 28: The Bulldogs (5-12, 1-3) defeated the Vikings (3-15, 0-4) on the road.

Marshfield 54, Douglas 30: The Pirates (16-2, 4-0) defeated the Trojans (9-8, 2-2) at home.

Mountain View Conference

Oakland 47, Crow 23: Grace Witten scored 15 points to lead the Oakers (17-1, 6-1) to the victory over the Cougars (10-6, 3-4). Hadley Brooksby added 14 points for Oakland. Whitney Anderson scored 14 points for Crow.

Monroe 68, Oakridge 33: Kailey Martin, Kyndal Martin and Peyton Greene each scored 16 points to lead the Dragons (16-2, 7-0) to the victory over the Warriors (5-11, 2-4). Mirtha Lopez added nine points for Monroe. Sierra Cargil recorded 11 points for Oakridge.

Tri-River Conference

Central Linn 41, Santiam 39: Colleen McLaughin led the Cobras (12-5, 5-2) with 16 points in the win over the Wolverines (10-9, 2-5). Jessica Neal, who scored 10 points, made two free throws with three seconds left to seal the victory for Central Linn. The Cobras were down 29-19 at halftime, but held the Wolverines to two points during the fourth quarter to win their sixth straight game. Shyanne Ward led Santiam with 15 points.

Sunset Conference

Waldport 26, Bandon 11: The Tigers (2-15, 1-3) were downed by the Irish (4-13, 1-3) on the road.

Gold Beach 52, Reedsport 25: The Panthers (11-5, 4-0) remain undefeated in conference play after their victory over the Brave (4-11, 0-4) at home.

Mountain West League

McKenzie 51, Mohawk 35: Danielle Melcher scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles (12-5, 6-2) to the victory over the Mustangs (7-11, 4-4). Paige Lowry added 13 points; Jade Hayes added 11 points, seven rebounds and six steals; and Kanyen Kamrath added 10 points and six rebounds for McKenzie. Peyton Robinson led Mohawk with 17 points.

Alsea 35, Siletz Valley 25: The Wolverines (10-4, 7-1) edged the Warriors (5-12, 3-5) at home.


Willamette 46, Thurston 29: Makenzie Crawford and Natalie Willoughby scored 11 apiece for the Wolverines (6-10). Megan Miller scored eight points to lead the Colts (2-12).

Pleasant Hill 56, Chemawa 50: Alexa Ellis scored 19 points to lead the Billies to the victory over the Braves. Rebecca Peasley added 12 points and seven rebounds, Angeni Yeo had 11 points, three assists and five steals and Victoria Lewis had 10 points, five rebounds and six steals for Pleasant Hill (14-5). Yoyo Pooyouma scored 21 points for Chemawa (4-9).

Creswell 56, Cascade Christian 25: The Bulldogs (14-6) defeated the Challengers (10-11) at home.

Boys Basketball

Sky-Em League

Sutherlin 59, Junction City 56, OT: Mason Gill scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs (11-8, 3-1) to the victory over the Tigers. Trevor Daniels added 14 points and Brandon Carr scored 13. Matthew Penn scored 28 points for Junction City (10-8, 1-3) and Colton Ditlefsen had 14.

Cottage Grove 72, Sweet Home 48: Erick Giffen scored 19 points to lead the Lions (12-5, 3-1) to the victory over the Huskies (6-11, 1-3). Jesse Ellingworth scored 17 points and Trenton Grover scored 11 points for Cottage Grove. Keegan Holly led Sweet Home with 17 points.

Sisters 60, Elmira 41: Jack Berg scored 19 points to lead the Outlaws (11-7, 4-0) to the victory over the Falcons (4-14, 0-4). Zach Anderson added 13 points for Sisters. Logan Bender scored 11 points and Kellen Smith added nine for Elmira.

Far West League

Zach Young added 24 points, five rebounds and six steals, and Mason Crowson added 11 points and nine rebounds for Monroe. Charlie Updegrave led Oakridge with 33 points.

Oakland 65, Crow 30: Cameron Benzel led the Oakers (15-3, 6-1) with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win over the Cougars (1-15, 0-7). Andrew Harrington added 14 points and four assists for Oakland. Dayton Ricks scored eight points for Crow.

Tri-River Conference

Santiam 43, Central Linn 36: The Wolverines (14-6, 6-1) defeated the Cobras (2-15, 0-7) in the league game.

Mountain West League

Triangle Lake 63, Eddyville 37: Parker Wynn and Carver Beck scored 21 points apiece to lead the Lakers (15-2, 8-0) to the victory over the Eagles. Alex Amezcua added 15 points for Triangle Lake. Cameron Davis scored 15 points for Eddyville (9-8, 4-4).

Lowell 49, Mapleton 32: Logan Miles scored 14 points to lead the Red Devils (13-6, 6-2) to the victory over the Sailors and Bryce Pickett added nine. Nate Neece scored eight points to lead Mapleton (2-12, 2-6).

Mohawk 58, McKenzie 26: The Mustangs (5-13, 3-5) defeated the Eagles (1-15, 0-7) in on the road.

Sunset Conference

Reedsport 59, Gold Beach 51: The Brave (12-3, 4-0) took down the Panthers (9-7, 2-2) on the road.

Waldport 56, Bandon 51: The Irish (9-7, 2-2) defeated the Tigers (5-12, 0-4) at home.


Creswell 46, Cascade Christian 41: Jack Callahan led the Bulldogs (12-8) with 14 points in the victory over the Challengers (11-7). Trey Magnuson added nine points and Chance Bellew added eight in the home victory. The Bulldogs only shot 8-for-18 from the free-throw line, but Bellew made two free throws toward the end of the game to seal the victory. Joel McLemore scored 16 points and Ben Dunn added 13 for Cascade Christian.

Chemawa 68, Pleasant Hill 66: The Braves (3-11, 1-5) slipped past the Billies (10-8, 3-2) in a nonleague game.
