She scared him away.

Sixty-seven-year-old Patsy Neal tried to do a good deed for her neighbor on March 31, but when he became aggressive, she soon showed him that "kind" is not synonymous with "weak."

When 32-year-old Karl Forss came to her house to use the telephone just after 10 p.m., Neal willingly let him inside because he was a neighbor and she "sort of knew him," reported the Plain Talk (Newport, Tennessee). But upon getting in her house, he threatened her with a hammer and demanded the keys to her car as well as $500 to buy drugs.

Instead of acquiescing to the man's demands, she edged away from him up some stairs. At the top of the stairs, she stopped being meek, and she shoved Forss down the stairs and locked herself in an upstairs room. When he began to beat on her door with his hammer, she fired at him with a .22-caliber rifle, sending him fleeing.

Forss was arrested the next morning and charged with assault and robbery.
