She is bravest person I know; Torchwood star will run the London marathon for cousin.

Byline: SAMANTHA CASTLE

TORCHWOOD star Kai Owen will run the London Marathon next week to raise money for his cousin, who has battled nine brain tumours.

Llanrwst-born Kai plays Rhys in the hit BBC Wales sci-fi show, and has vowed to raise as much money as possible for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent, who have helped his cousin Michaela Lemalle in her 21-year fight against the disease.

"Michaela is the bravest person I know," said Kai, 33.

"She has undergone nine operations to remove tumours from her brain. Her strength and courage is an inspiration to everyone.

"I love Michaela, she is an absolute star and with the help of CLIC Sargent she lives a wonderful life with her family in Llanrwst.

"I always wanted to do something for Michaela and running the marathon is a great opportunity for me to raise money for this wonderful charity which helps children everywhere.

"I've been in training since January and managed to run 20 miles the other day, so I'm sure it will be a breeze!" Kai's fundraising target is pounds 2,000 but he is hoping to raise more.

"I've sold off some Torchwood memorabilia, including signed scripts, and I've attend a few sci-fi conventions to raise the profile of the charity.

"Everyone's been so supportive, especially the people of Llanrwst doing whip-rounds in the pubs and sponsoring Michaela," he added.

CLIC Sargent is Britain's main children's cancer charity, supporting young people and their families through cancer every step of the way.
