Shave my hair too.. I want to look like you; Lad, 6, is clipped for cancer pal's fund.

PLUCKY Lulu DeVries takes the clippers to her pal's hair in a headshaving pact that has raised PS2,800 for her cancer fight.

Oisin Ruskin suggested having his locks cropped in solidarity with Lulu, who lost hers during chemotherapy.

And when he was given a mirror, he turned to his six-year-old school buddy and said: "I look like you now."

The money will help Lulu's parents as they strive to raise PS162,000 for US treatment that could save her life.

Lulu was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, soon after she and Oisin started at Great Denham Primary School, Beds.

A scan revealed a tumour the size of a grapefruit near her kidney. Cancer had spread to her bones, bone marrow and lymphatic system. Her dad Rob, 51, said the news felt like being struck "with a dagger". Almost 18 months on, Lulu has had multiple rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, a stem cell harvest, radiotherapy, 33 days in isolation and is now having immunotherapy. Even if it works there is a 50 per cent chance of a relapse.

But the bivalent vaccine treatment available in New York is said to train the white blood cells to constantly look for cancer cells, lifting survival rates to 90 per cent. Oisin was desperate to do his bit for his pal. His mum Jo Ruskin, 40, said: "I'm so proud. It really brought him and Lulu together as friends."

And Rob said: "He's a determined boy. He'd go up to people, tell them what he was doing and get another fiver. I think he surprised everyone."

The family have raised PS40,000 so far. Rob, who is tackling a 12 marathons in 12 days challenge, added: "The amount is daunting but we can't put a price on our brave girl's life. She is our little hero.

"We'll do anything to save our daughter's life and prevent a relapse." | |You can donate at
