Sharjah Municipality destroys more than 44 tonnes of unsafe foodstuff.

Dubai: Sharjah Municipality destroyed around 44 tonnes of unsafe dry food and 3,692 litres of liquid foodstuff as part of a food safety campaign in the past few months.

Earlier the department seized and destroyed 835kg of meat that was defrosted improperly, and could have posed a health risk for the consumers.

The meat was confiscated from a public kitchen in Sharjah.

The establishment was fined and closed down, and was not allowed to resume operations until they followed the safety and health regulations, which they did.

Another 222kg of fish and chicken that were also unsafely defrosted were also taken from a shop in Sharjah, and was fined.

Sharjah Municipality has intensified inspection campaigns on grocery shops and all establishments selling or manufacturing food product to ensure public safety.
