Shanahan silences 'hecklers' ALLIANZ NHL FINALDAN HAILS BROTHER.

Waterford 0-22

Clare 0-22 (aet)

DAN Shanahan last night claimed that his brother Maurice was "heckled" by the Clare bench as he prepared to fire Waterford into an Allianz League SHL final replay clash in Thurles next Sunday.

Deise supremo Derek McGrath labelled the meeting of the Munster rivals as now being a "trilogy" as they'll meet again in six days' time ahead of the June 5 provincial championship showdown.

There were 39 wides in yesterday's drawn game at Semple Stadium but there was a thrilling finale to both normal time and extra-time.

And after Clare's Conor McGrath sent the game into extra-time with a last-gasp free, super sub Maurice Shanahan struck in the dying seconds of the game to prevent the Banner's first title success in 36 years.

But after the managers McGrath and Davy Fitzgerald clashed on the touchline, McGrath's assistant Dan Shanahan ramped up the rivalry by claiming the Clare bench attempted to put his brother off with the crucial last minute 85 metre free.

"He got a lot of heckling now, to be honest with you," said Shanahan senior.

"I'm talking from the Clare bench now, lads, 41 Published by MGN Ltd at One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5AP (020-7293 3000) and printed by Trinity Mirror Printing Ltd. at Meath Chronicle Print, Navan, Co. Asked to clarify if the heckling came from the Banner bench, Shanahan (inset) said: "I'll leave it up to ye to imagine that. But I think a draw was a fair result."

"They thought it was going to be shadowboxing but it opened up in the second half and maybe extra-time.

"It was a tight finish and we were happy to get the draw. We'd a lot of wides, but so had Clare.

"Again I think Maurice deserves respect - it took a lot of liathroidi to put it over the bar. There were a lot of heckles."

Clare themselves protested that Kelly was denied a legitimate point in the 71st minute.

"Clare will have their decisions as well," said Shanahan. "Somebody was telling me HawkEye missed out on a point."

However HawkEye won't go live in Thurles until May 22 and the Championship game between Cork and Tipperary.

And as for the clash between McGrath and Fitzgerald on the sidelines, Shanahan grinned: "Handbags, lads.

"These things happen.

The benches you have, they're going to back you up. Davy's going to back up Clare and we're obviously going to back up our young fellas and roll on the next day."
