Shaikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital receives 1,200 patients in 6 months.

The hospital also received 720 referred cases from 16 hospitals in the UAE, in addition to 65 cases that were treated abroad but made the required tests and follow up visits inside the hospital.

Ras Al Khaimah - The Shaikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah received 1,200 patients suffering from cancer, cardiovascular and neuroscience diseases in six months.

Dr Myung-Whun Sung, CEO of the hospital, stated that the hospital achieved various accomplishments in a short span of time. He said the medical staff conducted 50 high-risk and complex and minor operations including CABG, mastectomy, laparoscopic pyeloplasty and cystostomy in addition to 94 cases for coronary angiography which were all successful. He added that the hospital also received 720 referred cases from 16 hospitals in the UAE, in addition to 65 cases that were treated abroad but made the required tests and follow up visits inside the hospital since August 2014 when Seoul National University Hospital was designated as the operator of the hospital.

He also explained that as of November 2014 some departments have been partially opened.

On November 2, 2014 the outpatient clinics of the oncology and cardiovascular departments were opened, while on December 2, 2014 the outpatient clinics for the neuroscience, cath lab, operation theatres and a number of beds for inpatients and ICU. The hospital includes latest medical equipment: two MRI machines, two linear accelerators, 1 PET/CT, 2 CT scans, two cardiac cath labs, 1 aniography system, two isolation rooms, fluoroscopy, general X ray, mammography, angiography, bone densitometry, stat scan (Whole body scan at ER), C-ARM (OT).

The medical staff managed to conduct complex operations to remove tumors for UAE nationals using endoscopy for the first time in the UAE, said Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed Al Hashimi, Chief of Government Communications and International Relations (CGIRO) in the hospital. -reporters@khaleejtimes.com
