Shadow: Pegasus Oil Still OK to Use?

Dear Sergeant Blade,

There are questions from Shadow maintained about the type of oil that's used in the aircraft.

We aren't certain how the oil issue started, but there's some concern the Pegasus oil used in the Shadow has changed in color. Soldiers are questioning why the oil has a different color, but not a different part number. Because of this, some believe the oil color change means there must be a new oil part number they don't know about.

The current Pegasus oil part number is listed as 60578-2 in the "Expendable and Durable Items List" work package in the Shadow IETM, TM 1-1550-1689-23&P (EM 0370, Apr 20). Can you help us out with the Shadow oil issue?

Dear M.J.,

We sure can. The oil is OK. PM UAS has confirmed with the Textron Systems Quality Engineering group at Mobil that eve though the oil does have a different color than Shadow units are used to, it is the exact same formulation as before. So all Shadow units can keep and continue to use the oil they have in stock.

Maintainers can rest easy. There is no new oil for the Shadow.

Order the oil through the Aircraft Notebook (ACN). From there, the order goes through to the Common Aviation Maintenance Management System (CAMMS) and to the Catalog Ordering Logistics Tracking System (COLTS). It goes through all three systems.
