Sex with lad teacher, 29, is struck off; EDUCATION.

A TEACHER who had sex with a 15-year-old pupil was last night struck off after a disciplinary hearing.

Alison Smith narrowly escaped jail earlier this year after confessing to a fling with the boy at her home.

The special needs teacher, 29, from Aberdeen, did not appear at the hearing of the General Teaching Council for Scotland yesterday.

She instructed a solicitor to read out a statement on her behalf, requesting her name be removed from the register.

The panel said that Smith had committed a "relevant offence" that called into question her "integrity and competence to be a teacher".

Frank McConnell, legal assessor said: "Young people should be protected from this behaviour. It is also recommended that this matter be referred to the ministers for possible inclusion on the list of those disqualified from working with children, in light of the view that her actions had harmed a child."

SHAME Alison Smith
