Sex slaves win pounds 600k for ordeal; COURT.

FOUR women kept as sex slaves yesterday won more than pounds 600,000 damages.

In the first case of its kind, a judge made the award against a people trafficker and his wife.

The women were locked up in brothels after being tricked into coming from Moldova to the UK with an offer of work as dancers.

They worked up to 20 hours a day as prostitutes to pay off pounds 20,000 traffickers paid for them and were charged pounds 300 a day "rent" for squalid London rooms.

In the High Court Mr Justice Treacy awarded the women, who cannot be named, a total of pounds 611,000 damages against Gavril and Tamara Dulghieru, who are both serving jail terms.

The judge said it was an example to traffickers "that their misdeeds do not pay".
