Sex crimes.

SEX offenders struck 1,073 times last year.

The figure was revealed in a breakdown of all reported crimes by Northumbria Police.

Violence was the most common crime reported, with police logging 19,232 incidents.

Next in line was criminal damage, with 28,242, followed by theft with 24,578.

Incidents involving thefts from motor vehicles numbered 8,140 and there were 5,166 reported instances of domestic burglary.

Robbery was the least reported crime, with 774 incidents, closely followed by religious or racial offences with 800 incidents.
