Seven held for theft of copper cables.

The gang is believed to be responsible for a spate of such thefts reported from Industrial Area number 15 of Sharjah.

With the arrest of seven Asians, the Sharjah Police have busted a gang which allegedly specialised in stealing copper cables and wires.

The gang is believed to be responsible for a spate of such thefts reported from Industrial Area number 15 of Sharjah.

After receiving many complaints from electric shop owners in the area, the police zeroed in on the suspects and arrested them.

The gang allegedly broke open the doors of trading establishments with the use of saws and screwdrivers. The gang targeted copper wires in lieu of the value it fetches in the market.

A police official said the force is concerned about the increasing instances of thefts reported from industrial areas. The police have urged outlet owners to secure their premises by installing cameras and early detection alarm systems, which are connected with the Sharjah Police's operation room. -afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
