Seven: High praise.

Byline: Joe Riley

LIVERPOOL City Council's singer-in-residence is out of town this weekend - guesting at the Oxford Summer Opera Festival.

Mezzo soprano Rachael Russell, from Crosby, was appointed to sing Liverpool's praises at official dos in the lead-up to the 2008 European Capital of Culture title.

But tonight, at short notice, she is taking on the challenging role of the female narrator in Benjamin Britten's chamber opera The Rape of Lucretia.

The work forms the centrepiece of this year's festival, with another performance tomorrow.
