Serving counters that disappear: one folds up, the other slides in.
In the example at left, a hinged panel was installed above recessed cabinets in Patsy and Steve Larson's dining room. Dropleaf supports hold each end. The panel folds down level with the reces to double the counter space.
At right a buffet drawer pulls out of Lucille and Jim Parker's room divider. It extends on heavy-duty glides that were mounted under the counter to the inside walls of its end panels. The oversize panels also stiffen the counter and give it visual substance.
The Douglas fir cabinets in both houses were finished with urethane.
