Services of Baba-i-Urdu recalled.

KARACHI -- Speakers at a programme held to mark the 58th death anniversary of Baba-i-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq on Friday recalled his great contribution to the promotion of Urdu language and said that it's important that society continues his mission.

The event was organised at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology.

'The late scholar and linguist dedicated his whole life for the advancement of Urdu. In fact, this university was the outcome of his tireless efforts as he always dreamt of building such an institution,' said FUUAST Vice Chancellor Dr S. Altaf Hussain at the programme.

The university would collaborate with other institutions working for the promotion of Urdu and try to accord the status this language actually deserved in the country, he added.

He spoke about how a language brought people together and played a vital role in social cohesion and national unity. 'We all should contribute our bit to promote our national language. This very ceremony is also part of the struggle initiated by Baba-i-Urdu.'

President Anjuman Taraqqi-i-Urdu Wajid JawAwAad said the university and anjuman had been closely associated for decades and this collaboration would always continue.

Highlighting services of Baba-i-Urdu, MNA Kishwar Zehra said Urdu was a national asset and every effort should be made to further the cause of our national language.

Deputy City Mayor Arshad Hassan said Maulvi Abdul Haq would always be remembered and praised for his work.

University registrar Dr Mohammad Sarim, Prof Ziauddin, and Prof Ghafoor Baloch also spoke.
