Sequencia Corporation to Deliver Microsoft SQL Server 7.0-Based Applications for Process Manufacturers.

Powerful New Relational Database Management System Helps Manage Data From ERP

To the Plant Floor

PHOENIX, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Sequencia today announced that it has signed an agreement with Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) to license its popular SQL Server(TM) 7.0 enterprise database software, and will embed the technology into Sequencia's entire suite of plant floor- to enterprise-level manufacturing solutions, including OpenBatch(TM) and EnterpriseBatch(TM). The agreement will provide Sequencia's Global 1000 process manufacturing customers with a powerful relational database management system (RDBMS) that is self-administering, can grow with their business to handle more data, transactions and users; and ensures the security and reliability necessary for mission-critical systems.

"Microsoft's technology continues to pervade both the plant floor and business system environments," said Cary Vandenberg, Sequencia's president and CEO. "By embedding such powerful enterprise database technology into our entire product line, we are delivering on our strategy of anticipating and developing solutions to stay ahead of the market trends. Our customers will benefit from the performance, size and scope increases in SQL Server 7.0, which enable it to be used in the most demanding transactional ERP environments as the data backbone for mission-critical plant floor applications."

Launched by Microsoft in November 1998, SQL Server 7.0 is a scalable, easy-to-use relational database management that is part of the Microsoft BackOffice suite, and therefore tightly integrated with Windows NT(R)/Windows 2000 and Microsoft's DNA for manufacturing platform. This license to embed SQL Server 7.0 technology into other products gives vendors complete control over the installation and runtime environment, thus freeing the end user from the need to install and manage a separate database application.

"SQL Server 7.0 brings a host of new and important features to meet the needs of both smaller business and larger enterprise customers in the manufacturing marketplace," said Charles Stevens, vice president of the application developers customer unit at Microsoft. "This announcement illustrates Sequencia's commitment to the Microsoft platform and we are pleased they will be enhancing their offering by adding SQL Server 7.0 to their entire suite of products."

The technology will first be embedded into Sequencia's OpenBatch software, which manages recipe execution on the plant floor, and EnterpriseBatch Production Manager, which provides productized integration and transformation between plant floor systems and enterprise systems, such as SAP's R/3.
