Manufactures a broad line of thermocouples, RTD and thermistor probes for the plastics industry. Specialty is custom manufacturing to customer's specifications and providing application problem solving. Among patented probes is the "retractable" plastic melt thermocouple, which allows immersion and withdrawal from the plastic melt stream during full operation. Also offers bayonet-style, nozzle-type and compression-fitting versions of attachment to plastic injection and extrusion machines. Company also carries extension wire and accessories.


Offers the following instruments:

* Model DPH-2000 is a temperature measuring instrument that has a range from -150 F to 1999 F. It has a fast response time and uses standard industrial type K thermocouple probes. It is a three-digit unit with a resolution of 1 F and a display with LCD digits. Measurements are accurate to 0.8% on -35 F to 850 F range; 1% of instrument range on all other points. The plastic housing, with its watertight membrane switch, is made from a high-impact plastic and is resistant to most corrosive materials. Optional accessories include four different types of probes: universal, surface, air-gas and hypodermic.

* Model DT-156 thermometer has a range of -50.0 F to 199.9 F with an accuracy of +/-1 F between -30.0 F and 199.9 F. It features solid-state design and three individual probes with quick-response sensing elements. Each probe has a 12-ft color-coded lead, permitting the checking of temperatures at points up to 24 ft apart. A color-coded pushbutton selector switch permits selection of the temperature to be checked. An A-B switch gives an instantaneous digital reading of the difference between the temperatures being measured by the A probe and the B probe. This feature is designed for differential measurements such as inlet/outlet temperatures.

* Model AM-14 is a liquid crystal industrial multimeter. Its voltage ranges measure up to 750v a-c, 1000v d-c, and 200mv a-c/d-c. Current ranges are up to 2000ma a-c/d-c in addition to 0-10 amps a-c/d-c. Resistance ranges offer up to 200k ohms and 20M ohms. Direct temperature reading capability of both -40 F to 300 F and -40 C to 148.8 C. Over-range indication, low-battery indication, auto-zeroes on all ranges, reversed-polarity indication, and diode-test range are some of the available features. Accessories will add power, leakage, high current (6000 amps), temperature and 15kv a-c/d-c testing capability.


Offers noncontact infrared temperature for measuring product temperatures such as sheets in thermoforming and extruded materials. Temperatures range from 0 to 1000 F. Turnkey systems are provided, including controllers, computers, high-level software, and infrared sensors.


Manufactures a complete line of temperature and power controls. Company's IMP controller in 15- and 30-amp configurations is the tallest addition to its CMP and SMP controllers.

Series 1990 controllers offer 1/4 and 1/8 DIN mounting configurations with user-selectable inputs. Plug-in output and alarm modules allow custom configuration in the field. Optional digital communication and free software provide remote supervision, data-logging and alarm capabilities.

Series 4000 analog controllers offer digital indication, PID contro and plug-in control outputs, ZC znd PC power handlers replace mechanical contactors for resistive loads.


Manufactures a line of hand-held digital thermocouple pyrometers and over 150 different probes, many for sensing hot melt, mold, barrel, and platen temperatures. Series 396 allows a wide temperature range, is F/C switchable, accurate to +/-1% of the reading, and housed in a rugged ABS plastic housing. This instrument is now equipped with sealed membrane switches for maximum reliability. Run by 1-3 standard 9v batteries, each battery gives the unit 500 hr of continuous operating time. All instruments and probes are available in thermocouple types J, K and T.

Probes for plastic applications are a 1/8-in. diam., 4-in.-long needle probe for insertion/immersion, a micro-needle probe with 3/16-in. long tip for semi-solid molds, and surface probes with ceramic-encased tips and straight or 90-degree angle shafts for molds, barrels, and platens.


Offers a full range of temperature sensors including the patented Vari-depth sensor, which is adjustable to any immersion depth.

Single-zone and multizone temperature controllers are offered. Manual-tuning automatic-tuning full PID single-zone controllers offering a wide range of features and options are available, including digital communications. Digital control on all controllers is standard. Analog control is also available. Controller size options include 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 DIN sizes. Company's Cimac 2 is a 1/2 DIN size multizone controller suitable for extrusion process temperature control. Eight zones of process control are offered. Built-in setpoint programmers enable time/process control.

The FCS-8000 is a multizone temperature control system featuring fast, precise and repeatable control for hot-runner mold and other low-mass temperature control applications. Automatic-tuning, soft-start, digital communications, line-voltage compensation, diagnostics and many other features are offered. The system is a stand-alone system, yet can be used with the company's MACO-8000 machine control system. Up to 60 zones/system are possible. Company's IMP 2020 Optimizer retrofit controls allow injection molders to custom build their controller by adding optional control packages when they are needed.

The IMP 2020 "C" option adds 15 zones of PID temperature control to the base monitoring system. Each zone has its own preproduction and production setpoints and can have minimum and maximum values set so that alarms are raised automatically if a zone goes outside the optimal temperature. Depending on the severity of the problem, plasticating may be blocked, te affected area shut down, or the molding machine switched out of automatic. The control can sense broken thermocouples and provides manual temperature control until the sensor is repaired.

A 7-day, 24-hr heating schedule provides automatic heating to preproduction temperatures and automatic cool-down according to set times. Pressing a single button brings the machine up to production temperature.

Temperatures are displayed on a bar graph that is updated every two sec. The graph shows deviations above and below setpoint, with a resolution of 0.1 F.


A new temperature-control system, the Cincinnati Runnerless Mold Control (CRMC), feature simple operation, mega memory, high-speed electronics, and total self-diagnosis. System provides technical assistance useful to the moldmaker, process engineer, and the molding technician. A completely automatic diagnostic system thoroughly tests and reports the operating reliability of each zone, confirms the wiring of the system, detects and confirms thermocouple malfunctions, reports on all fused locations, and even detects cross-talk (interaction) between heaters, reporting the percentage of effect on adjacent zones.

Color graphics simplify data recognition for operators, and "help" programs instantly answer any question. Errors are listed by fault and affected zone, so that operators can distinguish immediately serious problems from process problems.


Company offers its Mark R noncontact temperature sensor for slim objects. The Mark R is primarily used for the extrusion of plastic and for the placement of insulation onto conductors whose temperature it measures. It may also be employed to monitor the temperature by noncontact means. The Mark R generates a millivolt output as function of the target temperature in a nonlinear fashion.

Company's line of Smart-Series temperature-control systems includes a wide variety of frame and module sizes and styles to suit a broad variety of applications. Frames accomodate from one to 48 zones of control in both 15- and 30-amp capacities. Control modules are microprocessor based with multifunctional digital displays. SSM modules feature digital display of setpoint or process temperature, auto/manual mode selection, and a heater dryout function automatically activated during system startup. CSS modules provide these same features along with a built-in ammeter and, in conjunction with company's CIM module, the capability to be remotely controlled and monitored via a PC. Company's mainframes are self-contained,, requiring no external relays or contractors, and are offered with or without communications capability. Protective plastic shields, individual cooling fans, circuit-breaker protection and optional current/voltage monitors are also featured. Accessories include cables, mold connectors, floor stands, and transformer kits. In addition to the standard Smart Series line, company also provides quotations on special frames and systems to suit specific control or plant requirements.


The HES temperature controller utilizes a patented dual-thermocouple design to maintain precise temperature control in critical production processes. Company reports tht it is the only extruder manufacturer providing a patented system that uses two thermocouples in each barrel zone. With one thermocouple located in the heater/cooler and the other at the deepest point of the barrel, corrective heating or cooling action can be taken to bring the inner barrel surface temperature to stability quickly, and is done automatically with no adjustments required. In addition, its recipe feature reduces the amount of scrap manufactured, curing startup and grade change operations.


Offers a complete line of resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) and thermocouples designed specifically for plaatics processing applications. Sensor construction is built to withstand over 900 F. A wide variety of mounting options are available as well as most European and Japanese design replacements. Company also offers a complete line of cast-in aluminum and bronze heaters for plastic extrusion equipment, as well as high-density cartridge heaters for injection molding.

* MTT900 temperature transducer with nonintrusive measurement of polymer-melt temperatures, response time of 10 milliseconds, detection of highly transient melt temperatures for tighter process control, resistance to abrasion from filled materials. Unit withstands pressures to 30,000 psi to 800 F.

* Model 1200 digital temperature indicator with 1/8 DIN plug-in design, easy-to-read 0.56-in. LED display, 1 mV per digit analog linearized output, automatic cold-junction compensation, TC, RTD, mA, Vd-c, rpm inputs, and single-alarm version with optional dual comparator alarms.

* Model 1280 digital temperature indicator with 1/8 DIN plug-in design; thermocouple, RTD and mA inputs; dual alarms standard on TC, RTD input models; and upfront scaling of mA inputs.

* Model 1285 digital temperature indicator with microprocessor-based, 1/8 DIN plug-in design; accuracy of 0.1%; thermocouple, RTD, mA and strain-gauge inputs; field-programmable ranges and scale; display to +/- 19999 counts and dual-alarm option.

* Model 1330 temperature controller with 1/8 DIN plug-in design, digital display and setpoint of control upfront adjustment of control parameters, on/off or full PID control, and optional deviation alarms.

* Model 2300 temperature and process controller with microprocessor-based, 1/4 DIN plug-in design, autotune PID, RS232C, RS422, RS485 serial communications, universal programmable inputs, remote and second setpoints, dual-programmable alarms, and heat/cool control mode.


Manufactures a complete line of temperature indicating, controlling, and recording instrumentation for the plastics industry, including hand-held digital and analog pyrometers, infrared thermometers, thermocouple sensors, scanners, controllers, temperature labels, inks and crayons. All products are quality engineered to ensure accuracy and reliability. Temperature ranges from -280 to 2000 F/C, accuracy of +/-1 degree and degree resolution are standard features. Thermocouple sensors are available for measuring mold surfaces, sub-surfaces, liquids, melts, air shots and air, with assured accuracies as close as 1 degree and quick response up to 2000 F. Noncontact, hand-held infrared thermometers accurately measure from 0 to 1600 F/C with quick readings that are displayed to 0.1 F resolution on a large LCD. Display shows minimum, maximum difference and average temperature and high/low audible alarms. Emissivity is fully adjustable. In addition, company produces a full line of specialty and custom sensors tailored for the plastics industry.


Designs and manufactures (in the U.S.) a complete line of temperature controllers. All instruments feature a high-degree of configurability and universal power supplies to facilitate implementation by the OEM and end-user alike. Controllers incorporate self-tuning algorithms that automatically determine optimal PID parameter values for the installation. Algorithm minimizes overshoot of the setpoint when initiated from ambient.

Various models of Series 90 controllers and alarm units are designed for cost-conscious applications and are available in 1/16 and 1/8 DIN-sized units.

The 1/8 DIN model 808 features dual displays, two control outputs, alarm output and digital communications. Air, water and oil cooling can be accomodated by the built-in cooling algorithms. An auto/manual station is built in.

The full-featured model 818 adds other possibilities, such as analog retransmission and remote input, two alarm outputs, and adaptive tuning.


Offers its Conductor series, a complete line of microprocessor-based temperature control systems including modules, main frames, cables, junction boxes, and mobile racks.

Individual modules feature Auto Soft, which allows for gradual heater warmup based on ground-fault leakage current, thus preventing heater failure due to moisture. The Conductor series features 14 diagnostic error messages to aid troubleshooting the module, thermocouple or heater. Three alarm indicators alert the operator when the heater is over or under temperature or causing ground fault. Units feature multipurpose LED display, dual-function digital setpoint, and automatic thermocouple fault compensation.

Various standard electrical configurations include 240-v a-c or 120-v a-c, one-or three-phase, and common European 5-wire systems. Fifteen- and 30-amp module outputs are standard.

Standard mainframes include 5-slot, 9-slot and 12-slot systems. Large multizone cabinet systems with up to 85 zones have been built.

The company also offers a self-contained single-zone chassis controller. Control cables of 10 ft and 20 ft are standard.

Company manufactures a complete line of thermocouples, wire and accessories, and supplies all common ISA types such as J, K, and T, as well as special alloys for applications requiring up to 4200 F temperature range. A complete line of accessories is available, including plugs, jacks and adaptors. All thermocouples are manufactured for use in rugged environments for extended life and service.


Process controls include Model 5701 single-loop process controller with continual Auto-Tune (trademarked); Model 5721 setpoint profiler for single- or dual-channel batch control; Paragon 57 PC-based interactive process-control software; PC5700 network communications supervisor software; as well as various other communications and protective housing options. Temperature controls include electronic or electromechanical (differential expansion or liquid expansion); indicating with digital (LCD/LED) or analog displays, or nonindicating; miniature or standard size; surface-mount or probe styles; and for normal or hostile environments. Sensors include thermistor and RTD for local or remote sensing.


Offers a full line of thermocouples, RTDs and thermisters for use in plastics processing. Off-the-shelf delivery of a variety of melt-bolt and spring-loaded designs are available. Accessory products such as leadwire, fittings, and connectors are available.


Manufactures temperature-control systems for hot-runner molding. Product line includes a variety of enclosures and controllers that can be configured to meet specific tool requirements. Single-zone systems are available to run heated sprues; up to 128-zone enclosures run the largest multicavity tools. Controls require no user-tuning and are responsive to shear heat and other process disturbances that minimize temperature cycling, resulting in more consistent gate and molded-part quality, and potential cycle reduction by allowing lower setpoint temperature without freezing off gates.

Controllers implement a comprehensive set of diagnostics that indicate and protect against heater and wiring faults. Included are open and reversed thermocouple protection, open, shorted, and ground-fault circuit protection and automatic, adaptive wet-heater backout. True RMS amp and volt meters permit modulation of power to be viewed during the mold cycle to diagnose loose heaters or thermocouples, crossed-zone wiring or to analyze tool performance.

Enclosures meet rugged industrial requirements and comply with NEMA standards. Special enclosures comply with Ford, GM and IBM standards.


Manufactures a complete line of temperature sensors specifically for plastics manufacturing machinery, including a wide range of thermocouple sizes, styles and configurations. Provides all necessary accessories, including hardware, connecting systems, flexible extensions, magnetic thermocouple assemblies and melt-bolt thermocouples. Also manufactures thermocouple wire, extension wire, and mineral-insulated cable.

Company custom designs temperature sensors and has extensive in-house engineering capabilities, along with extensive laboratory facilities, calibration and testing capabilities.


Company's FP13 is a microprocessor-based, multizone temperature controller capable of controlling up to 13 zones. The power and flexibility of the FP13 make it suitable for a wide variety of temperature regulation applications. Full digital PID gives sophisticated control with minimum overshoot and rapid setpoint attainment. Processing time runs at 10 ms/channel. Standard features include: input by thermocouple, PT100; heating/cooling capability; PID control, programmable for each zone; storage of four groups of settings in RAM; error analysis and fault displays; assignable zone numbers; uniform heat-up (all zones heat up according to rate of slowest zone).

Options include the GA 13 display unit that selectively indicates temperature, setpoint, T-setpoint, percentage output of all 13 zones; and RS232 serial interface linking to IBM PC, Machine Logic, etc.


Provides three-mode electronic temperature controls, including plug-in, single-channel microprocessor-based models, plus an entire line of multizone units in compact, panel-mounted, 16- and 32-zone modules. Capacity may be extended to any number of zones by use of remotely mounted auxiliary modules of 30 channels each that operate under the supervision of the panel-mounted unit.

For extrusion applications, both single- and multizone models can use company's patented Duosense system, which uses both a deep- and shallow-well temperature sensor to gain the advantages of faster response and longer life without sacrificing accuracy of deep-well sensing.

Company also offers a complete line of adjustable RTD temperature sensors for extrusion and injection machines.


Company's Industrial Automation & Controls Div. offers STT 3000 Smart Temperature Transmitter. Its memory contains the look-up tables for all standard thermocouples and resistance bulbs. Selection of the appropriate type via the SFC (Smart Field Communicator) gives the required linearization, minimizing spare-parts requirements. An added feature of the STT 3000 is the reading of highest and lowest inputs, external cold-junction compensation at an isothermal block, and engineering units displayed in degrees C, F or R, plus millivolts and ohms.

The STT 3000 can be installed on a DIN rail or in an explosion-proof housing designed either for surface or 2-in. pipe mounting. Adjustments and diagnostic checks are performed via the SFC from locations remote from the transmitter.


Provides a wide range of temperature sensing and controlling devices. For direct, hot-melt temperature reading, company offers specially made injection nozzles with thermocouple hole, two types of hot-melt temperature sensing thermocouples, and an indicator with easy-to-read LED digits. Also offered are three popular styles of hand-held surface pyrometers. For safety, there is an infrared unit that can read temperatures up to 600 F without having to touch the heat source, and for temperatures up to 1650 F there is a fast-acting, digital unit; and a low-cost analog pyrometer.

Temperature controller line consists of the following:

* A 15-amp replacement module provides "automatic soft start" and is interchangeable with D-M-E G series and EMI E series.

* A 15-amp replacement module features company's exclusive "blow-proof" Microstat.

* Five-amp, multizone Microstat voltage controllers with amp meter come in six sizes from 1 to 16 zones. Four- and eight-zone controllers are available with LED amp or LED amp and temperature readout.

* Units that can handle 15-amp, 3600 watts on 240 volts per zone are available.


Manufactures hot-runner temperature controllers and control systems in a variety of models:

* Microcom 760 is a microprocessor-based, voltage-proportioning temperature controller which is PIDD self-tuning and reacts to 1/2-degree change from setpoint, giving temperature control for heat-sensitive plastics processing. Other features include digital LED display, membrane data keypad, ground-fault detection, soft-start, thermocouple break protection, F to C switchability, open-load indication and phase-angle firing. It is available in 15 or 30 amps. Single models and multizone panels are available with from 2 to 48 zones of control. Other models, which are closed-loop proportional control, single and two-zone, are suitable for single-cavity molding operations.

STC-10 single-zone 10-amp model controls bushings, machine nozzles or any single-control application. The DTC-10 model provides two zones of control at 10 amps/zone, which provides automatic control and soft-start for heater protection.

Company will custom design and build systems to customer's specifications.


Offers a complete line of noncontact infrared thermometers. Instruments are designed to operate efficiently and reliably in harsh environments from -50 to 6500 F. A variety of model series are offered to match any application requirement: on-line thermometers, portable noncontact thermometers, and low-cost 2-wire transmitters. Sensors "see" objects as small as 0.012 in. and can respond within 25 milliseconds to 60 seconds.


Offers two models of analog panel instruments for temperature monitoring and control. Model 370 indicating temperature controller features dual setpoints, 3.5-in. mirrored scale, and relay outputs. A large number of options allow this unit to be easily customized. It may be used as a direct replacement in most equipment.

Model 400 indicating pyrometer features a 4.5-in. mirrored scale, and it may be used with J-, K-, and T-type thermocouples.


Produces a complete line of analog and digital panel instruments and controllers at its Chesterfield, Ohio facility. Products include:

* LFE 2000 series 1/4 DIN temperature and process controllers are microprocessor-based to allow exceptional flexibility in general applications. Many standard options are available to match controller to specific applications. Special-purpose controllers are available for dual-loop, multiprofile, and zone-control applications. Controllers have custom features to enhance performance, while simplifying operation.

* LFE 4500 series intelligent 1/8 DIN meters and control meters have 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 digit vacuum-fluorescent displays. Meters are available for current, voltage, process, temperature, or pressure inputs.

* LFE model 4000 provides an operator with a clear, simple, and customized view of the production process with easy access to intelligent factory floor "communicative" devices. The multi-tasking operating system and colored character-based graphics provide fast notification of alarms and system conditions. A dedicated printer port provides a record of alarm occurrences, acknowledgements, and alarm clearings, along with a time and date stamp. Forty assignable front-panel keys replace hundreds of switches and pushbuttons. The 14-in. CRT is fully protected by a polycarbonate cover and a NEMA-4-rated front panel. The model configuration process allows for adjustment of information and displays presented to the operator as changes occur to equipment, factory layout, and information requirements.

Company also offers analog round, rectangular, and edgewise panel meters; optical and electronic analog meter relays; digital panel meters and meter relays; and analog temperature controllers.


Offers two new hand-held infrared thermometers for thin-film plastics temperatures: the Minolta/Land Portable Cyclops 343 and Cyclops 79 that make precise spot-temperature measurements (+/-1%K of reading) on thin-film plastics over a measurement range of 30 to 700 F.

The battery-powered Cyclops 343 has a narrow-band spectral response centered at 3.43 um and is designed to make measurements on hydrocarbon polymer films (polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC) of thicknesses down to 0.001 in. Cyclops 79 has a narrow-band spectral response centered at 7.92 um and makes measurements in polyesters, fluoroplastics, and polyimide films of thicknesses down to 0.001 in.

Additional features include Minolta-focusing reflex optics for accurate target definition; a digital-temperature display in the field of view; a choice of peak hold, valley hold, or continuous operation; and built-in calculating facility to compute the maximum, minimum or mean of a series of readings. Both units can be tripod-mounted and have a BCD output for an optional printer/datalogger. Other options include a digital-to-analog converter, dedicated printer, and a long eye relief that can be used when wearing a helmet.


Manufactures a line of noncontact infrared sensors that are designed to provide accurate, continuous temperature measurement in a wide variety of manufacturing settings.

Products available can either be fixed-mounted or portable. Fixed-mounted units have broad temperature ranges from 0 to 3,000 F or C. Response time is from 0.1 milliseconds to 1.0 sec. Portable units have temperature ranges from -67 to 2000 F or C. and sensitivity from 0.1 to 1.0 F or C. Units have a 1 sec response time.


Manufactures a wide variety of temperature controls, sensors and output devices for plastics. Model 300 series microprocessor-based controls are fully programmable to meet varying applications. Optional digital communications and Lovelink (trademarked) software provide remote supervision, data logging and alarm for statistical quality control. Other digital indicating controls include the low-cost 400 series 1/4 DIN size, 79 series 1/8 DIN size and 900 series 1/16 DIN size.

The 49 series analog controls and indicators feature full-scale indication and outputs to satisfy all applications. The 249 series is low-cost and has a solid-state LED deviation indicator. In addition, portable controls, hand-held indicators, SCR power controllers, solid-state relays and mercury displacement contactors are available.

Sensors for plastics include thermocouples and RTD or thermistor probes. Standard and custom-designed sensors, including foreign replacements, are manufactured for fast delivery.

Offers patented ribbon-temperature sensors for measurements in molding and extruding applications.

* Series A6A spring-loaded bayonet-style ribbon thermocouples are designed to measure in-wall temperatures of barrels and extruders without errors caused by conduction along the thermocouple stem. True local temperatures in the metal wall can be measured, free of all conduction errors caused by external air drafts, mounting fixtures and metallic protection tubes.

* Series C4 thermocouples measure temperature inside the mold cavity with millisecond response times. One group of thermocouples measures the part temperature in the mold cavity as it is being formed and cured. Another group measures the inside surface temperature of the wall. Both styles are designed to fit into the existing ejector pinhole and serve both as a thermocouple and ejector pin.

* Series C8 thermocouples are designed to measure plastic temperature as it flows through the extruder nozzle. They also have millisecond response times and can operate during continuous or cyclical applications.

Company carries a complete line of conventional temperature sensors, controllers, indicators and accessory items.


Company has developed a new product called the AutoProbe to measure the melt temperature across the melt stream. This device is a retractable melt thermocouple which is motor-driven and has a position-indicating transducer on board.

The motor-driven actuator mounts at the point of measurement and is connected via cable to the controller, which can be remotely mounted in the operator control cabinet. A scan of the melt temperature can be easily made by connecting the signal cables to an X-Y recorder and driving the AutoProbe in or out of the melt stream. An Auto-retract feature keeps the probe out of the melt stream until the temperature is above a minimum adjustable temperature to prevent damage to the probe. The basic unit includes a motor-driven actuator with a J thermocouple, 20-ft control cable, 1/2 DIN control module, and technical manual.


Manufactures the following temperature controls:

* The 1/4 DIN microcomputer-based temperature control features an automatic tuning function. The menu-driven program provides configurable process parameters. A dual, four-digit display allows both process and setpoint temperature visibility at all times. The operator can select the thermocouple input type in either C or F display. A program restart circuit eliminates program lockup due to transient voltage spikes or "brown-out." Parameters entered can be locked in. Self-test capabilities include lamp test and function tests with error messages. Nonvolatile memory retains process parameters when power is off. Controls can be operated manually if sensor fails.

Model 11 series a-c contactors, an alternative to electromechanical contactors and mercury relays, are available in single-phase or three-phase versions at all standard voltages to 600-v a-c, ranging in size from 10 to 1200 amps/phase. All 11 series contactors are tested for up to 600 operations per minute, and for over 200 million continuous operations without component failure. They are used in conjunction with on/off temperature controllers.

Also available are single-phase and three-phase a-c variable-voltage controls for proportional control of electric heat. Available from 10 to 1200 amps/phase, at all standard voltages to 600-v a-c, the 18 series controls come in either phase-angle or zero-fired versions, and are alternatives to variable transformers. Units may be operated manually, or may be equipped to follow an analog milli-amp or d-c voltage signal from a temperature controller or PLC. A variety of control options ensure that these controls can be readily adapted to different application requirements.

Company's 36 series d-c power controls accept a single-phase or three-phase a-c voltage input and have variable d-c output. Available at all standard voltage to 600-v a-c, sizes range from 10 to 1200 amps/phase and offer an alternative to rotary motor-generator sets as a d-c power source.

The 18A series thermocouple temperature controllers interface with the 18 or 36 series proportional controls to provide closed-loop temperature control. Available in either full-scale indication or temperature-deviation versions, 18A controllers can be set up for a variety of temperature ranges and thermocouple types.


Manufactures thermocouples and RTD temperature sensors for plastics. Sensors include fixed and adjustable immersion, ring, nozzle, and melt-bolt types. Other manufactured items include connectors, temperature indicators, sensor selector switches, and temperature calibrating instruments.

Offers pyrometers and sensors for temperature measurement in every phase of plastics processing. Pyrometers in analog and digital type in temperature ranges from -150 to 2000 F, with Celsius readouts. Sensors are for surface, melt and immersion, oven and free air with many variations in each category. Company can custom design sensors for special applications.


Provides modular temperature controllers which include such features as digital setpoints for accuracy and gold contact points that reportedly stand up better to dirt, corrosion and vibration. Their all-metal case is unaffected by high temperature and humidity. Available options include local-remote setpoint capabilities, d-c output signal and a-c/d-c alarm outputs. Also available is a remote digital scanning head, which allows monitoring of up to 8 selectable heating zones. Company's Data Acquisition & Control Systems (DACS) Division manufactures its 500 series comprising dataloggers, data acquisition, process control, and hot-runner control products. Company specializes in electric heater control and also in circulating fluid control for heating or cooling. Process information can be easily evaluated in the company's software. System sizes vary from stand-alone 8-channel systems, to 96-channel hot-runner systems, to 1000-channel multidrop distributed systems. Most industrial temperature sensors, transducers, transmitters, or conditioned signals can be fed directly into the 500 series units. Scale, offset, high, low, process high, process low, deviation, and band conditions and alarms can all be set from the front panel or a remote computer.


Offers low-cost temperature controls and ramp-and-soak temperature programmers. The MDC4E temperature controller features auto-tuning PID control in a small 1/16 DIN cabinet and is user-programmable for temperature range, thermocouple type or RTD. It is available in many output power configurations.

The MPC10S ramp-and-soak temperature programmer features auto-tuning PID control, has 10 ramp-and-soak steps, will repeat profile up to 99 times, and is easy for the operator to use and program. It is housed in a 1/4 DIN panel-mounted cabinet.

Company's MDC10 temperature controller has all the features of the smaller MDC4E but has the added feature of an RS232 interface so that the controller can be driven by a computer. The MDC10 controller is housed in a 1/4 DIN panel-mounted cabinet.


Offers temperature measuring instruments from a basic digital pocket thermometer to innovative hand-held instruments. Each unit offers a variety of probes for surface, immersion, air, or penetration applications. Instruments use type K, J, NTC or RTD sensors to obtain highest accuracy in every range. Temperatures range from -300 F to 2490 F.

Company's Professional Class Instruments offer such features as split display, dual probe inputs, max/min/hold and an optional logger module for recording and printing gathered information. Instruments are also available for air velocity, humidity, pH, pressure, and rpms.

In addition to a broad range of standard bayonet and melt-flow thermocouple assemblies and hardware, company can custom manufacture thermocouple and interconnection systems to customer's requirements. Wire products include PVC-insulated for general-purpose interconnection, to high-temperature insulations and steel armor for mechanical protection. The temperature controller range covers 1/4 and 1/8 DIN models featuring adaptive tuning for continuous automatic setting of control parameters, regardless of how process requirements vary.


Manufactures temperature controls in ranges from -180 F to 2250 F. Company's United Sensor Div. manufactures thermocouples and RTDs. The 970 series is a 1/4 DIN, microprocessor-based control with auto-tuning capabilities for simplicity of installation and operation. The 930 series control offers economical single or dual output.


Company's Polymelt System provides temperature control in injection molding, extrusion or mixing processes. The rugged fiber-optic probe is installed directly within the barrel or die of the extruder. In injection molding, polymer melt temperatures can be measured in the barrel or in the mold cavity itself. The hardened sapphire window at the probe end mounts flush with the inside of the barrel. Errors obtained with conventional thermocouples are eliminated because the probe does not have to protrude into the melt-stream.

According to the company, response time of the Polymelt System is 1000 times faster than a thermocouple, allowing tighter process control. The transducer provides a variety of outputs, including a simulated type J thermocouple output which can interface directly into existing controllers. Also available are 0-10 v d-c and 4-20 mA d-c current outputs.


Manufactures standard and custom controls and indicators in a wide range of packages (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 DIN, open-board, sealed, potted, NEMA-4); input (thermocouple, RTD, process) and output (solid-state, switched d-c, mechanical relay, process) configurations; serial communication options (RS-422/423, EIA-485); agency approvals (UL, FM, FDA, CSA, AGA, TUV, VDE, MIL-STD) and calibration curves (DIN, JIS). Noncontact temperature measurement of thin plastic films, plastic extrudates, coatings, molded and formed parts, and plastics in virtually all types of processes is possible using company's line of on-line and/or portable infrared thermometers. Instruments are available for all purposes, ranging from occasional spot-checking of temperature through and including complete on-line process temperature-control systems.

Difficult temperature measurements, such as on tenter frames involving extremely thin films, are readily accomplished using thermometers employing highly precise, extremely narrow-band infrared filters. This technique enables device to accurately measure surface temperature of the film without looking through the film or being influenced by the background.

Monitoring and controlling temperatures during heating in infrared or hot-oil ovens is possible by actually measuring the product temperature itself, rather than attempting to infer its temperature, using secondary techniques like measuring the air or heater temperatures to estimate product temperature.
