Senior MP Underlines Iran's Firm Resolve to Campaign WMDs.

Summary: TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran is determined to fight against the proliferation of the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), nuclear weapons in particular, a senior legislator said on Monday.

Referring to an international conference on nuclear disarmament due to be held in Tehran on April 17-18, member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mehdi Sanayee told FNA, "The nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation conference shows the Islamic Republic of Iran's firm stance on the campaign against WMDs."Sanayee also pointed out that the conference, meantime, will stress Iran's complementary stance that "all countries are entitled to the right to acquire nuclear energy"."Holding such conferences attended by various officials from the different world countries indicates that Iran enjoys expanded relations with the world and discusses its stances with them," Sanayee continued.Foreign ministers, representatives and nuclear experts from 60 countries are due to participate in the event to discuss challenges on nuclear disarmament, countries' commitments to the issue and the aftermaths of inaction in destroying the weapons of mass-destruction.Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki underlined Tehran's firm stance against nuclear arsenals, and added that the upcoming conference in Tehran on nuclear disarmament will show Iran's sensitive stance on nuclear weapons. Mottaki said that Tehran's international conference on nuclear disarmament will focus on the complete elimination of nuclear weapons in the world. "We believe that all countries should work towards complete nuclear disarmament. There should be no exception," Mottaki added. "Talks on nuclear disarmament pertain to those countries that possess them (nuclear weapons) along with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council," he stated. Mottaki said the conference aims to "show Iran's transparent will and sensitive stance on nuclear weapons", and underlined that the Islamic Republic has always been committed to nuclear disarmament. "We believe that there are even individuals in the United States who oppose nuclear arms," the Iranian minister said at the time.
