Senior Afghanistan female police officer dies.

ISLAMABAD (TAP) - The most senior woman police officer has died in hospital in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

Lieutenant Negar was shot in the neck a day before by unidentified gunmen near police headquarters in the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah.

Afghan policewomen are frequently targeted by militants.

She is the third senior policewoman to be killed in recent months. Her predecessor in Helmand, Islam Bibi, was killed on her way to work in July.

No group has so far said it carried out the latest attack.

Helmand police are now facing the threats of both Taliban insurgents and drug traders.
