Senators for raise in salaries of govt employees by 30 pc.

ISLAMABAD, June 16, 2009 (Balochistan Times) --Senators from both sides of political divide in senate Tuesday have demanded of the government to raise salary of government employees from grade 1 to 16 by 30 percent in place of 15 percent besides fixing monthly wages of a worker Rs 10000 per month. Participating in budget debate senator Raza Rabbani said 50 percent of NFC be granted to the provinces and population be not made basis of distribution of resources. Minimum wages be increased from Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 and raise of 20 percent be granted to government employees instead of 15 percent. He called for withdrawal of carbon tax imposed on CNG adding no haste be shown in making legislation. He appealed to members of national assembly and senate to set an example for nation by sacrificing the increase granted to them in salary and allowances in the budget. UN offices in Peshawar reopened ISLAMABAD, The United Nations offices in Peshawar have been reopened on Tuesday, said a statement issued by United Nations Information Centre (UNIC). These offices were temporarily closed following the suicide attack on Pearl Intercontinental Hotel on June 09, 2009. The UNIC states that throughout this period, the United Nations humanitarian work continued uninterrupted, with United Nations offices performing elsewhere in Peshawar. The United Nations intends to strengthen its humanitarian work for the internally displaced people (IDPs), who are in much need of urgent assistance, while taking the necessary security measures to safeguard the lives of its humanitarian workers.
