Senate takes notice of delay in development work of projects.

ISLAMABAD -- Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances Tuesday took notice of delay in development work of different projects in the Federal Capital.

Chairman of the Committee Saeed Ghani observed that public money could be saved if these departments took appropriate steps to complete the projects in time.

He was speaking at the committee meeting which was attended by its members Hidayat Ullah, Najma Hameed and Amar Jeet.

The meeting discussed the issues relating to development projects of different departments and construction of hospitals in the Capital.

Saeed Ghani directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to coordinate with Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd to complete the electricity and gas works within three weeks.

He also directed the CDA to retrieve its land from grabbers in news sectors and continue development work there.

The committee was briefed that a summary regarding extension of Poly-Clinic Hospital has already been moved to the PM Secretariat for final approval.

The Vice Chancellor PIMS Hospital told the committee that extension of the PIMS building was not necessary as the hospital is already facilitating a huge number of patients.

He also stressed that the hospitals like PIMS should also be constructed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas as the people of the region have to travel long distance to reach a hospital like PIMS.

The Committee was told that the project for establishing a hospital in the rural and slum areas of the Capital has been delayed due to non-finalization of PC-1.

The Committee was told that construction of police station at I-16 Markaz Islamabad amounting Rs 59.726 million, was approved by IDWP in January 2014 with subject to vetting by PP& H section, Planning and Development Division but it is still incomplete.

The Islamabad Police also submitted reply regarding law and order situation in the I-16 sector and stated that a police mobile has been deputed on patrolling in the sector round the clock besides Eagle motorcycle squad.

The Committee was told that IDWP has approved the PC-1 for construction of police station and forwarded the same to the Planning Commission of Pakistan for allocation of funds in PSDP during the next financial year 2014-15.

Moreover, the CDA has also allocated a plot No 23 in I-16 Markaz measuring 3243.66 Sq yards land for construction of modern police station.

Additional Secretary Interior told the committee that the district headquarter hospital Tarlai, Islamabad would be completed in three years and the ministry has also sent request for allocation of Rs 1.9 million.

The committee called officials from Ministry of Finance, Planning Division, CDA, SSGPL and IESCO in the next meeting.
