Sega Adds New Member to U.S. Executive Team for Dreamcast Launch and Beyond; Bandai Digital And Virgin Interactive Executive Joins Sega Sales Force.

SAN FRANCISCO--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--July 6, 1999--

Sega(R) of America Inc. today announced the appointment of Scott Ellyn as director of sales to its growing executive staff focused on the September 9, 1999, U.S. launch of Sega Dreamcast(TM), the superconsole with a built-in 56K modem that brings the most realistic and advanced game play ever achieved in a consumer videogame system. Ellyn's new responsibilities will include management of Sega's sales efforts in North America, maintaining key relationships with retailers and expanding new business opportunities in North America. He brings more than 17 years of consumer sales experience in entertainment and ten years of application and productivity software and services to Sega.

Before joining Sega, Ellyn was the national sales manager at Bandai Digital. In this capacity, he was directly responsible for building a sales and distribution organization from the ground up and then launching five new products including, Tomagotchi CD-ROMs, within a six month period.

During his career, Ellyn also served as sales manager for Virgin Interactive where he participated in the successful launch of the "Command & Conquer," "NASCAR Racing," "Monopoly" and "11th Hour" titles with overall sales surpassing more than five million units.

Growing consumer excitement and demand has already driven pre-sell orders for Sega Dreamcast to more than 100,000 with three months to go until the system launches at retail. Sega expects to reach more than 200,000 pre-orders for the 128-bit videogame system by the release date. Ellyn's role as director of sales will be to ensure participating retailers work together with Sega to fulfill all pre-orders and meet the overwhelming consumer demand in North America. He will report directly to Chris Gilbert, senior vice-president of sales, Sega of America.

Sega Dreamcast features many hardware firsts. Its advanced built-in 56k modem and 128-bit architecture make it the first videogame console with evolutionary capabilities, allowing it to grow and change to match advances in technology and the needs and desires of the consumer, including Internet capability. Sega Dreamcast is 15 times more powerful than a Sony PlayStation(TM), ten times more powerful than a Nintendo 64, and has four times the graphics processing power of the fastest Pentium II chip. In addition, it is the first videogame console to utilize hand-held gaming through its Visual Memory Unit (VMU), which allows gamers to swap games with friends in the home, arcade or head-to-head using two VMUs.
