Security guards stop thug attacking policewomen.

TWO Huddersfield court security guards saved two women police officers from a beating.

Two men were seen drinking from a bottle of vodka outside Kirklees Magistrates' Court in Huddersfield.

Police were called at 4.05pm on Thursday and two female officers were sent to the scene.

One of the men allegedly punched one of the officers in the face and a scuffle broke out. Court security guards Rohan Donaldson and Julian Rowe saw the officers struggling and rushed outside to help.

The two men were restrained and arrested.

Mr Rowe, 33, said they were pleased to help and warned that violence was becoming more common at the court.

"We have never had to jump in like that before but it's quite often that we have to restrain people," he said.

The workload of the court has increased significantly after the merger with Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates' Court.

The court now deals with cases from across Kirklees.

The security guards have been thanked by police for preventing the officers from being more seriously hurt.
