Secure Computing Announces Sidewinder Firewall and VPN Appliance.
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2002
Sidewinder, the World's Strongest Firewall and VPN Gateway, is
Now Available in a Simple "Power-It-On(TM)" Appliance
Secure Computing Corp. (Nasdaq:SCUR), a leading provider of enterprise access control solutions, today announced a new firewall and VPN product designed for the information technology professional -- the Sidewinder(TM) Appliance. Designed for a broad range of networking requirements, the Sidewinder Appliance is a compact, high performance server that offers a simple out-of-the-box installation experience.
The Sidewinder appliance is built on Dell Computer Corp.'s (Nasdaq:DELL) award-winning, rack-dense PowerEdge server platform. Through Dell's Custom Factory Integration (CFI) service, Dell will customize the hardware configuration, pre-install the software, and arrange for delivery of the Sidewinder Appliance to worldwide customers. The Sidewinder Appliance is available with Secure's standard 24x7 "live answer" support and includes a 3-year next-business-day hardware warranty.
"We have been using Secure Computing's Sidewinder firewall for years and have been pleased with the level of protection it provides and Secure's outstanding technical support," said Art Martinez, team lead of Intranet/Internet Infrastructure at United Airlines. "The new Sidewinder Appliance offers us the same high-end Sidewinder security that we have come to depend on in a form factor that not only fits perfectly in our racked computing environment, but is also well suited for deployment into our strategic airline operations."
IT administrators simply place the Sidewinder Appliance in the rack, connect a few cables, put in a pre-formatted configuration diskette, hit the power button, and wait for a friendly beeping tone that says the firewall is up and running on the network. Secure refers to the installation as the "Power-it-On(TM)" experience.
"In today's cost-conscious IT environments, customers are demanding that their security solutions be easy to install, administer and run at network speeds," said Chris Christiansen, program vice president, Internet Infrastructure and Security Software at IDC. "Secure Computing has delivered a firewall appliance that specifically targets the needs of today's IT customers."
Newly refined Mail and DNS settings allow Sidewinder to drop seamlessly into any IP network at start-up; and because Sidewinder doesn't require security patches for every new type of attack, as do most firewalls, it saves considerable time and money associated with maintaining the software and operating system. The Sidewinder Appliance is the perfect choice for unattended "lights out" installations. A single-site or worldwide deployment of Sidewinders can be centrally managed from any Windows(R) platform, anywhere.
"Dell's PowerEdge server, manufactured in facilities around the world, have an excellent reputation for product quality," said Mike Gallagher, vice president and general manager of the Network Security Division at Secure Computing. "We are pleased to be able to offer our Sidewinder firewall and VPN gateway on a trusted and familiar hardware platform."
Sidewinder, the world's strongest firewall and VPN gateway, has never been compromised. Sidewinder is the first firewall accepted for the EAL4+ Common Criteria evaluation, which uniquely includes a U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) penetration test and vulnerability analysis. EAL4+ is Common Criteria's highest Evaluation Assurance Level available for certifying firewalls. Sidewinder's hybrid architecture encompasses the entire range of firewall security mechanisms including stateful inspection, circuit level proxies, application filtering, secured servers, and real-time Strikeback(TM) alerts in one simple cost-effective package.
Pricing and Availability
The Sidewinder Appliance is available now, through Secure Computing and its network of resellers and managed service providers. Sidewinder Appliance prices range from $5,900 to $23,900.
