Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Federal Secretary Industry summoned on 27th.

ISLAMABAD, 20 May, 2009 (Frontier Star) -- National Assembly Standing Committee on Food and Agriculture on Wednesday summoned Secretary Agriculture Punjab and Federal Secretary Industry on May 27 after disclosure of six fake Urea producing factories in Punjab. This was decided in a National Assembly Standing Committee on Food and Agriculture under the chairmanship of Chairman Javed Iqbal Wariaj here on Wednesday. Member of the Committee Iftikhar Aziz disclosed that at the moment there are six fake Urea Producing factories in Punjab stressing that the said factories have so far received subsidy worth Rs 420 million. He informed the Committee that it is mandatory to include 18 percent phosphate in a single super phosphate Urea stressing these factories are only mixing 10 percent of phosphate in the Urea thus quality is pretentious. He made it clear that it is mandatory for all Urea producing factories to register under Fertilizers Control Act in Provincial and Federal Government respectively. The said factories are working on their own and are not abiding by the rules of Fertilizers Control Act. In this regard, Chairman of the Committee Javed Iqbal Wariaj said that the matter is quite grave and serious adding Senate Standing Committee will take notice of it thus issuing directives for comprehensive investigations. Taking belligerent notice of the serious matter, National Assembly Standing Committee on Food and Agriculture has summoned Secretary Agriculture Punjab and Federal Secretary Industry and Production on May 27. Conversely, Member of the Committee Aftab Sherpao said that undoubtedly it is a matter of grave concern. He told the Committee that for every province, a clear cut Agriculture Policy must be outlined. On the other hand, another Member of the Committee Rana Tanvir Hussain told the Committee that none of the Provincial Government is working on agriculture policy thus no implementation has been made in this regard.
