Secret U.S. plan to wreck a G8 initiative.

* Even as the Kyoto protocols to reduce global warming went into effect in February, the Bush administration was continuing to thwart international environmental efforts. The latest is a State Department memo outlining a secret U.S. plan to wreck a G8 initiative to act against illegal logging in the world's threatened rainforests. Europe is strongly backing the initiative proposed by British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and U.S. tactics have drawn furious international response.
