Second series for popular TV sitcom.
BBC chiefs took the decision after revealing that the show had enjoyed the most successful debut of a BBC1 situation comedy for five years.
With stars Zoe Wanamaker and Robert Lindsay, it drew audiences of more than 12 million for its final two episodes.
My Family is about a grouchy dentist, played by Lindsay, and his wise- cracking wife, played by Wanamaker, trying to handle the everyday stresses of family life.
Its viewing figures make it the most successful debut sitcom on the channel since Rowan Atkinson's police comedy Thin Blue Line in 1995.
The second series, expected on the screens next year, will run for 13 episodes and will be co-written by American creator Fred Barron, who has written for the US hit shows Seinfeld and The Larry Sanders Show.
STAR: Zoe Wanamaker
