Second Set death; BLOODSTOCK WORLD.
SECOND SET, winner of the 1991 Sussex Stakes, was put down at the age of 20 on Wednesday at Gestut Zoppenbroich in Germany after suffering pneumonia.
Trained by Luca Cumani, the son of Alzao won three races and was only narrowly defeated in the Group 1 St James's Palace and Group 2 Queen Anne Stakes.
After a fruitless spell in the US as a five-year-old, Second Set was retired in 1994 to Castle Hyde Stud in Ireland, where he stood for two seasons at Ir5,000gns. In 1996 he was sold to Germany, where he sired the Group 3 winners Areias and Willingly.
He was scheduled to stand this season at EUR2,000.
