Second Goa probe says British teen murdered.

PANAJI -- Doctors who conducted a fresh autopsy on a British teenager found dead on a beach in the Indian resort of Goa believe she was murdered, officials said.

After an almost six-hour examination, the panel of three doctors recommended that local police open a murder inquiry into the death of Scarlette Keeling.

"It was a unanimous decision of the panel," Goa police official Bosco George told reporters late Saturday after the autopsy.

A first autopsy on 15-year-old Keeling concluded she had drowned, leading to charges by her family of a cover-up.

The autopsy panel did not confirm rape but said that some of the injuries indicated sexual assault, a Times of India report said Sunday.

Keeling s mother Fiona MacKeown, who has insisted from the beginning that her daughter was sexually assaulted and murdered, welcomed the findings.

"We have been saying this since day one," she told reporters late Saturday. "In my heart I knew that she was murdered." MacKeown, who brought her oldest daughter and five younger siblings to Goa for a six-month stay in November, has accused police of trying to hush-up the case.

The first autopsy found only five bruises on Keeling s body, but Sunday s examination discovered as many as 50, with at least half of them believed to have been inflicted before she died.

Police have opened a murder investigation, the NDTV news channel reported, but AFP could not confirm that a case was formally underway.
