Seaway Networks Unveils Industry's First Multi-Gigabit Layer 2-7 Network Content Acceleration Card.

Accelerators delivers unprecedented performance, flexibility and

capability to network security and content level applications

Seaway Networks Inc., the award winning provider of high performance network content processing silicon, unveiled for the first time today their StreamWise(TM) NCA2000 family of Network Content Acceleration Cards. Based on the StreamWise(TM) SW5000 Network Content Processor, the NCA2000 family of PCI-X cards enables OEM's to turn a standard 1u/2u rack-mount server into a multi-gigabit, multi-service networking platform.

"The combination of Seaway's SW5000 NCP with general-purpose processors offers the customer an incremental migration path from their existing software implementations, largely preserving the customer's investment in content-processing code."

The NCA2000 delivers advanced network processing, stream switching, content processing and application offload to enable a 10-20 fold performance improvement in Application Firewalls, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems, SSL Accelerators, Firewall/VPN Systems, Content Switches, or other systems requiring high performance layer 2-7 processing.

StreamWise(TM) NCA2000 PCI-X Family

To address the wide range of processing requirements seen in the security market today, Seaway offers four variations (L4, L4C, L7 and L7C) of the NCA2000. All cards are full sized, 64-bit/133MHz PCI-X 1.0 compliant boards which support up to 4 GB of stream memory and up to 2 GB of processor memory. The cards come with two 1000base-T (copper) or two SFP 1000base-SX (fiber) ports.

The base NCA2000-L4 card provides multi-gigabit processing of networking functions such as layer 2-4 classification, TCP proxy, policy-based IP forwarding and L4 switching. With 2 Gbps (full duplex) of processing throughput, 150,000 layer-4 connection setups per second and two million simultaneous flows, the NCA2000-L4 has the performance and features to satisfy the most demanding network applications. With onboard forwarding and stream switching, transit traffic no longer needs to be processed by the host processor. Flows previously qualified and cleared can be switched directly on the card without further host intervention, increasing processing efficiency and reducing the load on the PCI/PCI-X bus. For traffic that requires host processor involvement, the card has four independent DMA engines to transparently move application data directly to and from host application buffers.

Network Content Processing

For advanced content processing applications, the NCA2000-L7 and L7C cards include a dedicated content processor that has direct access, at cache distance, to the recovered data streams buffered in the SW5000 NCP. The content processor provides an application environment which customers can use to offload functions that benefit from having direct access to the data path, dramatically accelerating data path processing. In addition, application code running on the content processor has access to a number of high-performance hardware assists in the SW5000 NCP to accelerate content level processing including string searching, content modification and content replication.

Cryptographic Acceleration

The NCA2000-L4C and L7C cards include an on-board Hifn 8154 HIPP II cryptographic processor to accelerate compute-intensive algorithms including AES, DES, 3DES, ARC4, RSA, DSA, SSL, IKE, Deffie-Hellmann, SHA1 and MD5.

Software

The NCA2000's device drivers are complemented by an easy-to-use, familiar, sockets-based API allowing simple integration with existing customer applications. Seaway's API extensions provide advanced security, stream switching, content processing and application offload features necessary for developers to create high performance, high value, layer 4-7 applications.

Availability

The Streamwise(TM) NCA2000 PCI-X card family is sampling now with general availability in 2Q 2004. The NCA2000 Virtual Development Platform is available now.
