Seattle Residents Want Their Mortgage Gone, Says Dex One Survey Conducted by Harris Interactive.

Dex One Will Pay Off One Homeowner's Mortgage

SEATTLE -- If Seattle residents could wave a magic wand and make one major debt disappear, they'd choose to eliminate their mortgage, according to a new survey conducted by Harris Interactive([R]) and released today by the sponsor, Dex One Corporation (NYSE: DEXO).

As part of their Dex Away Your Mortgage Sweepstake, Dex One will pay off one Seattle homeowner's mortgage - up to $350,000. According to a Harris Interactive survey commissioned by Dex One more than one of every three (35 percent) Seattle residents would choose to pay off their mortgage if they magically could eliminate one debt. When asked if they could pay off one of their debts, more than one of every three (35 percent) Seattleites would choose to pay off their mortgage. Nationwide, Americans appear more desirous of eliminating that debt, as 42 percent of all U.S. adults would choose to eliminate their mortgage. More than 1 in 4 (27 percent) Seattleites would pay off credit card debt and slightly less (19 percent) would pay off student loans.

Along with the Dex Your Debt Survey results, Dex One, a leading local marketing solutions company, announced the Dex Your Mortgage Away Sweepstakes. The company will pay off one Seattle resident's mortgage - up to $350,000.

Nationally, credit card debt appears a lesser, but still important concern. Less than 1 in 5 (19 percent) U.S. adults would choose to pay it off. Even lower was student loan payoffs at less than 1 in 10 (8 percent).

"As an integral part of the Seattle community, with our directory in more than 3 of 4 households and our retailers representing roughly 40,000 local families and employees, we were searching for a way to give back and help those residents who support our customers every day," said Robin Hager, vice president of sales for the Northwest region at Dex One. "The Dex Your Debt Survey told us Seattle residents want help with their mortgage, so that's what we're going to do."

In addition to the mortgage payoff, Dex One will also announce weekly winners of $1,000 gift cards to be used at any of Dex One's 4,000 Seattle advertisers beginning in late June.

While the majority of Seattle residents would save the money from not having a mortgage payment (77 percent), many also want to spend. More than half would make home improvements (53 percent) and nearly a third (31 percent) would dine out more.
